We Asked AI to Find a Plumber in Metairie. Most Local Plumbers Don’t Exist.
There are dozens of plumbing companies serving Metairie, Louisiana. We checked 12 of them across Google, Yelp, Angi, BBB, Expertise.com, and three AI search tools: ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. For each company, we pulled review data from whichever public platform had the strongest coverage.
Most of them don’t exist in AI search. And the ones that do might not be who you’d expect.
Why plumbers specifically
Plumbing is one of the highest-intent local searches there is. Nobody Googles a plumber for fun. When someone searches “plumber near me,” they have water on the floor or a toilet that won’t flush. They need someone now.
That urgency is shifting to AI tools. More people are asking ChatGPT or Siri for recommendations instead of scrolling Google results. And when they do, AI doesn’t pull from the same sources Google Maps does.
What Google surfaces in Metairie
Google’s local results in Metairie reward the usual signals: review volume, rating, proximity, and profile activity. Search “plumber Metairie LA” and you’ll see a predictable set of companies with strong Google Business Profiles.
Stuart Services has the largest Yelp review volume we found at 94 reviews, plus listings on Angi (4.3), HomeAdvisor (4.4), and a multi-service website covering plumbing, HVAC, and electrical. They’ve been in business since 1998. That kind of cross-platform presence makes them hard to miss.
Earl’s Plumbing has been around since 1949. 39 Yelp reviews, a Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite seven years running (2017 through 2024), an Expertise.com feature, and a BuildZoom score in the top 8% of Louisiana contractors. Legacy businesses like this have built up exactly the kind of citation depth that helps with both Google and AI.
Harold’s Plumbing has 110 reviews on Birdeye (a platform that aggregates reviews from Google, Yelp, and other sources), 10 on Yelp, an A+ BBB rating, and over 20 years in business. Their dedicated website and consistent directory presence give them visibility across platforms.
504 Parish Plumbing is newer but has built a strong profile: 4.8 on Google with 37 reviews, A+ BBB, listed on Expertise.com, active on Nextdoor. They’re a good example of a company doing the right things to build visibility.
So far, the picture looks reasonable. Companies with strong profiles and years of reviews show up where you’d expect. But Google is only half the story now.
What AI surfaces in Metairie
When we asked AI tools “who’s the best plumber in Metairie, LA,” the results were dramatically narrower than Google’s.
AI models like ChatGPT and Claude tend to reference the same small group: Roto-Rooter and Mr. Rooter (national chains with enormous web footprints), Earl’s Plumbing (75 years of accumulated press and directory listings), Lenny’s Plumbing (in business since 1967 with deep local roots), and sometimes Stuart Services or Al Bourgeois Plumbing.
That’s it. Out of dozens of active plumbing companies in Metairie, AI tools consistently return five or six names. Everyone else is invisible.
Kennedy Plumbing has glowing reviews across every platform. Customers praise Jacob Kennedy for same-day service, honest pricing, and excellent work. He’s a solo operator doing everything right for the people he serves. But with a thin web presence beyond review platforms, most AI tools have never heard of him. Same for Precision Plumbing, where Kevin Desrochers has a 5.0 on HomeAdvisor and loyal repeat customers, but almost no footprint outside of directory listings.
These are exactly the plumbers you’d want to hire. They’re just invisible to the tools that are increasingly deciding who gets recommended.
Why the gap is wider for plumbers
With yoga studios, at least some had press coverage, ClassPass listings, or TripAdvisor profiles that gave AI something to work with. Plumbers almost never get press coverage. They don’t appear on lifestyle platforms. Their web presence is typically a Google Business Profile, a Yelp listing, maybe Angi or HomeAdvisor, and possibly their own website.
That’s enough for Google Maps. It’s not enough for AI. AI models need a wider web of references: mentions in articles, roundup lists, BBB profiles, industry directories, news coverage. Without that depth, a plumbing company simply doesn’t exist in the model’s training data.
The result: the AI visibility gap is even wider for plumbers than it is for studios or restaurants. National chains win by default because their brand appears on thousands of web pages. Local operators, no matter how good, get buried.
The data
| Company | Yelp Reviews | Google Rating | AI Visible? | Google Presence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Roto-Rooter | National | National | Yes | Strong (national chain) |
| Mr. Rooter | National | National | Yes | Strong (national chain) |
| Earl’s Plumbing | 39 | — | Yes | Strong |
| Stuart Services | 94 | 4.3 (Angi) | Partial | Strong |
| Lenny’s Plumbing | 13 | 5.0 (Birdeye) | Partial | Moderate |
| Harold’s Plumbing | 10 | 4.4 (Birdeye) | Partial | Strong |
| Al Bourgeois Plumbing | 13 | 4.3 (Birdeye) | Partial | Moderate |
| 504 Parish Plumbing | — | 4.8 (37 reviews) | No | Moderate |
| Mudbug Plumbing | — | 4.3 (71 reviews) | No | Moderate |
| Kennedy Plumbing | — | — | No | Weak |
| Precision Plumbing | — | 5.0 (HomeAdvisor) | No | Weak |
| C.T. Traina | — | 4.0 (Angi) | No | Moderate |
Two national chains dominate AI results. A handful of long-established local companies get partial mentions. The rest, including some of the highest-rated plumbers in Metairie, are completely absent.
What this means if you’re a plumber in Metairie
You probably track your Google reviews. You might even respond to them. That’s the right move for Google Maps visibility, and it still matters.
But when a homeowner asks ChatGPT “who’s a good plumber in Metairie,” and your name isn’t in the answer, you’ve lost a customer you never knew existed. They didn’t scroll past you. They didn’t compare your reviews to someone else’s. They simply never saw your name.
The plumbers who start building the kind of web presence AI tools can find will have an advantage that compounds. That means getting listed in more directories, earning mentions on local sites, keeping business data consistent across every platform, and publishing content that shows expertise. It’s not complicated. It’s just work most plumbers aren’t doing yet.
